1. Need-Based

　　Financial aid that is need-based depends on your financial situation. Most government sources of financial aid are need-based.

　　該項(xiàng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金的發(fā)放標(biāo)準(zhǔn)是根據(jù)學(xué)生家庭的經(jīng)濟(jì)收入的高低，包括父母工資，家庭財(cái)產(chǎn)狀況等。Need-based獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金對(duì)于美國(guó)本國(guó)申請(qǐng)者來(lái)說(shuō)非常豐厚。但是對(duì)于國(guó)際學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)，只有少部分大學(xué)提供，絕大部分的大學(xué)僅有少量甚至沒(méi)有Need-based獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金供國(guó)際學(xué)生申請(qǐng)。

　　2. Merit-based

　　Financial aid that is merit-based depends on your academic, artistic or athletic merit or some other criteria, and does not depend on the existence of financial need. Merit-based awards use your grades, test scores, hobbies and special talents to determine your eligibility for scholarships.

　　該項(xiàng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金是以申請(qǐng)人自身具備的學(xué)術(shù)成績(jī)，思想品質(zhì)，發(fā)展?jié)摿Φ葘?shí)力因素來(lái)決定。并不考慮經(jīng)濟(jì)上是否需要幫助，只要學(xué)校認(rèn)可申請(qǐng)者的學(xué)術(shù)背景，都會(huì)給予獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金。該獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金并不局限于美國(guó)本土的學(xué)生申請(qǐng)，而是針對(duì)大部分申請(qǐng)者。

　　3. Need-Blind

　　Under need-blind admissions, the school decides whether to make an offer of admission to a student without considering the student's financial situation. Most schools use a need-blind admissions process. A few schools will use financial need to decide whether to include marginal students in the wait list.

 　　美國(guó)有很多資金實(shí)力雄厚的私立大學(xué)，在錄取的時(shí)候不考慮學(xué)生是否需要學(xué)校提供資助，即申請(qǐng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金于否對(duì)申請(qǐng)沒(méi)有任何影響。如果學(xué)校認(rèn)為申請(qǐng)人符合錄取標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，就根據(jù)學(xué)生的家庭情況做出判斷：該學(xué)生家庭能夠承擔(dān)多少費(fèi)用，其余全部由學(xué)校設(shè)法提供。美國(guó)的很多私立名牌學(xué)校都執(zhí)行需求無(wú)關(guān)的政策，例如哈佛大學(xué)、普林斯頓大學(xué)、耶魯大學(xué)等。

 　　以上是美國(guó)本科獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金的申請(qǐng)介紹，而我們通常還會(huì)看到Fellowship和Graduate Assistantship這樣的字眼, 以及Graduate Assistantship下的Teaching Assistantship (俗稱的 ‘TA’)和Research Assistantship (俗稱的 ‘RA’)，他們均屬于服務(wù)性獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金，這種獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金只提供給碩士或博士申請(qǐng)者，獲此獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金者需在校擔(dān)任每周12-20小時(shí)的輔助教學(xué)或研究工作。本科生在少數(shù)學(xué)院也能獲得助研金，但比率相對(duì)很小。

 　　總體上看，對(duì)于申請(qǐng)美國(guó)的本科生的中國(guó)學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)，獲得獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金的機(jī)率會(huì)比研究生以上級(jí)別學(xué)生小得多。
