        一.引言 
        美國是世界上擁有大學(xué)最多的國家，其中有令人神往的一流大學(xué)，也有令人頭痛的野雞大學(xué)。每年都有很多中國留學(xué)生被美國一些野雞大學(xué)騙取錢財，那么如何來辨別眾多的美國大學(xué)是不是qualified，是不是有資格授予學(xué)位證書的呢？ 
        二.美國教育部的聲明 
        很多美國學(xué)校在中國招生宣傳時都說自己是美國教育部認證的。事實上，在美國教育部的官方網(wǎng)站上就明確說明了美國教育部沒有認證大學(xué)的，只是制定一些法律來規(guī)定一些認證機構(gòu)去認證大學(xué)的quality。

        The U.S. Department of Education does not accredit educational institutions and/or programs. However, the Secretary of Education is required by law to publish a list of nationally recognized accrediting agencies that the Secretary determines to be reliable authorities as to the quality of education or training provided by the institutions of higher education and the higher education programs they accredit. The U.S. Secretary of Education also recognizes State agencies for the approval of public postsecondary vocational education and State agencies for the approval of nurse education. 
        三.美國大學(xué)的鑒定機構(gòu) 
        美國的大學(xué)認證機構(gòu)按地域來分有6個區(qū)域性的認證機構(gòu)，這些機構(gòu)都通過了美國教育部(Department of Education)或高等教育司(the Council for Higher Education; http://www.chea.org)的認可。這六個學(xué)位認證機構(gòu)包括中部，東部，北部，南部，西部，西北部，每一個機構(gòu)負責(zé)對該轄區(qū)的正規(guī)大專院校進行認證。這些機構(gòu)通常對整個學(xué)校進行認證，一旦一個學(xué)校經(jīng)過這些機構(gòu)的認證，代表該校的每一個科系都通過認證。

        除了地區(qū)性的認證機構(gòu)之外，美國還有有80個專業(yè)認證機構(gòu)，專門負責(zé)就其領(lǐng)域內(nèi)對各校的某一科系認證。在一所經(jīng)過6個區(qū)域性的認證機構(gòu)認可的大學(xué)中，不一定每一個科系都經(jīng)過80個認證機構(gòu)的認證。例如加州州立大學(xué)洛杉磯分校是經(jīng)過西部大專院校協(xié)會認可的，但是該校的64個學(xué)院，科系和專業(yè)分支中，只有15個在學(xué)校通過認證的基礎(chǔ)上又通過了專業(yè)認證機構(gòu)的認證。幾個熱門專業(yè)的認證機構(gòu)如下：
